Are you interested in a career in the electrical construction industry? Do you think you have the aptitude and skills necessary to complete a rigorous 5-year apprenticeship program? If you meet requirements, you could be on your way to a rewarding career.

All applicants must meet the following general requirements (unless he or she has a minimum of two thousand [2000] hours of documented electrical construction work experience (W2's) or has documented military experience as a construction electrician), in order to qualify for oral interview.

General Requirements for Applicants

  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Must have a passing grade in high school Algebra I or post high school equivalent.
  • Must be a resident of Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer, or Crawford County.
  • Must have a valid PA driver's license.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

*High School seniors (only) may apply while still in school. Final acceptance will be determined on their ability to produce a high school diploma prior to starting our program. Seniors must also be 18 years old by September 1 in order to qualify.

 

NOTE: You can take the math course offered on the skills prep website if you do not meet the math requirements. Completing the math course on the skills prep website makes you eligible to apply. https://www.skillsprep.org/login/index.php.

 

Physical Requirements for Applicants

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Applicants must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles, and towers of various heights, Push, pull, crawl, crouch, and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes, and crawlspaces. Lift 25–50-pound objects on a fairly consistent schedule, and use various hand and power-assisted tools to install conduit, wiring, fixtures, devices, and electrical apparatus within commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.

Required Steps for Applicants

The steps required in the application process for the apprenticeship are as follows:

 

1. Steps for New Apprentice Applicants

 

  • Create an Online Account:
  • Fill out the required questions accurately.
  • Upload Required Documents:
  • Please get in touch with your school and request that your official high school transcripts or post-high school educational documentation be sent directly from your institution to our office.
  • Proof of Residency:
  • Ensure your Pennsylvania driver's license demonstrates proof of residency in one of our four counties.
  • If you are in the process of moving, please provide the change of address card from the DMV along with the driver's license photo you are uploading in your application.

2. Take the Aptitude Test

 

  • After you submit your application, we will reach out to schedule a date for your aptitude test. You must confirm your attendance within the timeframe specified in the correspondence.
  • The test consists of reading and math sections.
  • It is a timed test. Both parts are graded and then combined to create an overall test score, which is graded on a scale of 1 to 9.
  • You must receive a score of 4 or higher to qualify for an oral interview.
  • If you receive a score of 3 or lower, you did not qualify for an interview and will need to retake the aptitude test. You cannot be rescheduled to retake this aptitude test for three months from the original test date.

3. Participate in the Interview Process. If you have a qualifying score on your aptitude test

 

  • We will contact you to schedule a date for your interview. You must confirm your attendance within the timeframe specified in the correspondence. Failure to confirm your interview may result in losing your spot on the interview schedule.
  • Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled interview.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • Ask questions if you have any.
  • After all interviews are concluded, you will be notified whether you have been accepted into our apprenticeship program.

The Western Central Pennsylvania Electricians’ JATC accepts ONLINE APPLICATIONS ONLY (at this time, there are no in-person visits)

Upon acceptance into the apprentice program, a physical examination, which includes drug screening, is required at the JATC's expense. Drug testing is mandatory throughout the apprenticeship. The physical examinaton and drug. screening are paid for by the JATC.
